Greetings for the Muslim Sugar Festival on April 10, 2024

Sußmann: “As the state capital of Stuttgart, we are grateful for the commitment of Muslims and their communities, who work every day for the participation and integration of new immigrants and thus strengthen social cohesion.”

The mayor writes in her greeting:
„Eid Mubarak – Happy Eid!
Dear Muslims of the state capital Stuttgart,

I wish you and your families a happy and blessed sugar festival.

A particularly intensive period of physical abstinence and inner contemplation during the fasting month of Ramadan is now behind you. Ramadan and breaking the fast are traditions in our culturally diverse city of Stuttgart.

This year, many Muslim families and communities have once again opened their doors and houses to their fellow human beings and especially refugees and invited them to break their fast together, regardless of origin or religion. These encounters are precious and allow us to exchange ideas and learn from each other. This strengthens participation in social life and cohesion. This is all the more important given the increasing polarization and division in our society, wars and crises worldwide. The depressing situation in Ukraine and the Middle East affects many people’s everyday lives. My condolences go out in particular to the civilian victims in these conflicts and to their families and friends. At the same time, we are also seeing that many people across the country are standing up for democracy, diversity and humanity and are demonstrating against hatred and right-wing extremism.

As the state capital of Stuttgart, we are grateful for the commitment of Muslims and their communities, who work every day for the participation and integration of new immigrants and thus strengthen social cohesion.

After a very special time of reflection, prayer and devotion, I wish you a blessed sugar festival with your family, friends.

Best regards
