Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had to settle for being runner-up Swiss Open 2024 after losing to Carolina Marin. Gregoria lost even though he got match point first.

In the final match of the 2024 Swiss Open in St. Jakobshalle, Basel, Sunday (24/3/2024) evening WIB, Gregoria went through a tight duel for three games against Marin. After fighting for 1 hour 21 minutes, Gregoria lost 19-21, 21-13, 20-22 to the three-time world champion.

Gregoria took the lead at the start of the first game. He led 10-6 and entered the interval with an 11-9 lead.

Marin was able to catch up and turn ahead. However, Gregoria, who was behind 14-18, was able to equalize by winning four points in a row.

Marin’s sharp attacks overwhelmed Gregoria. Gregoria ultimately lost the first game 19-21 after his cross shot went wide.

Gregoria started the second game well and was ahead 11-8 at the interval. Through accurate ball placements, Gregoria earned points.

Gregoria made Marin fall and fall several times chasing the ball. He finally won the second game 21-13 to force a rubber game.

In the deciding game, Gregoria won seven points in a row to lead 10-4 over Marin. Through a cross ball that Marin failed to return, Gregoria entered the interval with an 11-6 lead.

After the interval, Gregoria actually lost the lead after Marin won six points in a row to take the lead. Since then, Gregoria and Marin continued to chase the points until they drew 19-19.

Gregoria managed to reach match point first, but was thwarted by Marin. In the setting match, Gregoria made a mistake in returning Marin’s serve and gave her opponent match point. Gregoria ultimately lost 20-22 to Marin.
