Manchester City achieved a narrow 1-0 victory over Brentford in continuation Premier League. The Citizens also rose to second place in the standings.

Duel Man City vs Brentford took place at the Etihad Stadium, Wednesday (21/2/2024) early morning WIB. The two teams played a goalless draw in the first half.

Man City broke the deadlock in the second half with a goal Erling Haaland. That goal was the difference in this match. The Sky Blues closed the duel with a 1-0 win.

This victory brought Man City up to second place in the Premier League standings with 56 points, one point different from Liverpool above them. Brentford is stuck in 14th place with 25 points.

The Course of the Match

Brentford almost scored a goal in the 16th minute. Frank Onyeka went one on one with Ederson, but his shot was blocked by the Man City goalkeeper.

Man City threatened again in the 25th minute. Julian Alvarez’s hard shot in the penalty box still flew over the bar.

Alvarez created another opportunity two minutes later. This time the ball shot from outside the penalty box slid beside the goal.

Man City got a golden opportunity in the 33rd minute. Bernardo Silva headed Kyle Walker’s header in the penalty box. Goalkeeper Mark Flekken was out of step but the ball rolled into the side of the goal.

Man City almost broke the deadlock three minutes later. Oscar Bobb kicked the ball towards an empty goal before Ben Mee blocked it and saved Brentford from conceding.

Brentford turned to threaten in the 42nd minute. Onyeka’s header on target was saved by Ederson.

Both teams failed to score until entering the break. The first half ended 0-0.

Man City stepped on the gas entering the second half. Pep Guardiola’s troops were still unable to break down Brentford’s defense until entering the 65th minute.

GOL! Man City broke the deadlock in the 70th minute. Haaland successfully broke through Brentford’s net from a counter-attack scheme and beat Flekken with his kick. The home team leads 1-0.

Brentford almost equalized two minutes later. Toney’s long-range shot flew over the crossbar.

Haaland managed to break into Brentford’s goal again in the 79th minute from Walker’s pass. However, the goal was not considered because Walker was offside first.

Phil Foden threatened in the 86th minute. His hard kick towards the goal was blocked by Flekken.

The 1-0 score for Man City lasted until the final whistle of the match. The Sky Blues achieved an important victory in the championship competition.
