Members of the Brigade of Surveillance of Protected Areas (BSAP) of Haiti began the “march of the revolution” on Monday, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. Hundreds of protesters, in support of former coup plotter Guy Phillippe, took to the streets of the border city with Dajabón, shouting for Henry to step down and expressing their desire for a new Haiti and elections.
The BSAP members, alongside the protesters, wore masks and were heavily armed, declaring that the “revolution” had begun. They expressed their support for the people in their movement against the government.
“We are here to protect and, at the same time, support the population in their movement. The situation in Haiti is extremely worrying for everyone,” said one of the members.
Meanwhile, at the border market in Dajabón, less than 10% of Haitian merchants participated, citing the barricades and disorder in their country as reasons for not crossing the border. Conversely, Dominican merchants reported conducting business as usual within their cubicles.
