Hamilton against Orban: “The anti-LGBTQ law of the Hungarian government is unacceptable and cowardly”

by admin

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has called Hungary’s “anti-LGBT” law “unacceptable and cowardly” ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix in Budapest. “I want to share my support for those affected by the government’s anti-LGBTQ law,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram. “It is unacceptable, cowardly and misleading for those in power to suggest such a law. Everyone deserves the freedom to be themselves, no matter who they love or how they identify, ”he added. On July 21, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said a national vote would be held to assess support for the law after the European Commission initiated legal action against Budapest over the measure. “I urge the Hungarian people to vote in the next referendum to protect the rights of the LGBTQ + community, they need our support more than ever – said Hamilton – Please show love for those around you because love will always win by sending you positivity”, he added. And the same four-time German world champion and former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, who wore trainers adorned with a rainbow flag at the pre-race press conference, supported Hamilton’s point. “I find it embarrassing for a European Union country to vote on laws like this,” Vettel now told Aston Martin. “Everyone is free to do what they want and that’s the point. It is along the lines of live and let live. It is not up to us to make the law but only to express support for those affected by it, ”added the 34-year-old.
