At least one point: Second division football team Hannover 96 fought to a 1-1 (0-1) draw at Hertha BSC on Friday evening. Only when they were unlucky did the Lower Saxons remain harmless in the capital for a long time.

When hardly any Hanoverian was still expecting an equalizer, Enzo Leopold was there. In the third minute of injury time, the midfielder headed the celebrated equalizer for the guests. It was the 13th draw of the season for coach Stefan Leitl’s team.

Zieler: “We have to be happy with it”

“What a brutal statistic,” said 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. “If you equalize in stoppage time, you have to be happy with it. Even if we’re not happy with always playing a draw.” Coach Leitl drew a mixed conclusion: “I’m happy that we got a deserved point. We’re doing a lot of things right, but individual quality is required in the final third, and we’re not achieving that enough at the moment.”

Kempf heads goal of the day for Hertha

Hannover had teething problems in the capital and were behind early on after a header from Marc Oliver Kempf (13th). After that, the Lower Saxony team took more and more control of the Olympic Stadium, but were unlucky.

Gindorf and Schaub only hit the crossbar

Lars Gindorf missed a “goal of the month” in the 20th minute and hit the ball on the crossbar from a good 20 meters. Two more long-range shots from the offensive player (24th, 34th) missed the target before Louis Schaub also hit the crossbar with a direct shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Leopold scores late

After the break, however, the Hanoverians’ determination was blown away. The guests were no longer dangerous in front of the Berlin goal, but they were now more stable. There was a lack of ideas until Marcel Halstenberg hit a precise cross from the half field and Leopold sank a beautifully placed header into the Berlin goal (90th + 3).
