Harald Eia out to NRK

In a longer explanation in the last episode of “Tore and Harald’s podcast”, Harald Eia problematizes a feature broadcast on “Dagsrevyen” 10 February.

Eia’s criticism – which is presented with a certain twinkle in her eye – is aimed at a feature where several Norwegian artists sing “Good night, Oslo” in tribute to the late Lillebjørn Nilsen.

Media24 mentioned the matter first.

Eia states that the concert is not an event that “Dagsrevyen” has covered – but rather one that they themselves have put in place.

– This is something that “Dagsrevyen” has staged itself, says Eia in the podcast.

– Honorable sources

Eia refers to the whole thing as a “media scandal” – apparently something joking.

– This is not news. This is something that NRK has organized itself. This news has been constructed by NRK, he rants.

In the feature, the artists also make brief statements about their relationship with Lillebjørn Nilsen. Eia states to have received confirmation from one of them that they received a fee for the feature.

– They are interviewed for a fee. These are paid sources, says Eia, and refers to point 3.11 of the Vær varsom poster – which states that “as a general rule, the press should not pay sources and interviewees for information”.

Dagbladet has been in contact with Harald Eia, who answers the following questions about whether he would like to expand on the criticism The daily newspaper:

– Haha. No, what I say in the podcast lasts a long time. NRK answers well for itself.

This is how NRK responds

Editor Knut Magnus Berge in NRK Nyheter rejects the criticism of Dagbladet.

– It is completely obvious to everyone, I think, that this is not a traditional news feature. We already say in the introduction that we have invited these artists. They do a job for us, for which they get a standard fee, and I think that must be perfectly fine. I don’t think anyone thought that this was anything other than what we introduced it as, he says to Dagbladet.

About the conflict: – He still owns them

Berge further says that he believes that it is unproblematic that the artists make short statements in connection with the feature, and points out that it concerns artists who had a relationship with Lillebjørn Nilsen.

– I think it was fairly obvious what this was, and I think the viewers appreciated it. We think it turned out very well. We asked some artists to do a job for us. Then we think it is decent to pay them for that job. And I don’t think there are that many people who react negatively to this.
