Some time ago, the Director General of Postal and Information Technology (Dirjen PPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Wayan Tony Supriyanto, said that Starlink had applied for two permits in Indonesia.

Namely, the use of VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) technology and permission as a telecommunications provider or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

According to Wayan, permission for VSAT services has been obtained, while services for ISPs are still in process.

“There are two permits for Starlink to apply for; for VSAT and internet provision. For the VSAT, they have built a hub (center) and everything and the equipment station has also received permission from SDPPI,” said Wayan, at his office, Jakarta, Wednesday (4/ 4).

“For the internet, he has to cooperate with NAP, perhaps the cooperation agreement has not yet been finalized,” he added, referring to the Network Access Provider, licensing for providing internet interconnection services.
