New edition of the cell phone classic with Snake?

Nokia is planning the comeback of a classic that was nothing short of revolutionary 25 years ago. Will the classic game “Snake” be there again?

With their antennas, the first cell phones always seemed a bit like the walkie-talkies with which one tried to contact the neighbor’s child in the treetop from the terrace or – light years further away – with alien beings on other planets. Mostly in vain, by the way. Then came the Nokia 3210: the first cell phone without a pointed antenna, and could be customized in the color of your choice thanks to the replaceable shell. The future shone so brightly in 1999.

Equipped with the T9 function for the first time, the 3210 allowed SMS without typing errors. At least when it didn’t turn the “happy new year” into a “good coup”, invited friends to “culling” instead of “cooking” or caused new parents to send corrective text messages like: “His name is Maxi, not Nazi! !!”

You played “Snake” until the Nokia 3210 battery was empty

One can hope for a more reliable autocorrection if Nokia now apparently wants to bring the 3210 back onto the market, 25 years after its acclaimed first version. There is no sales date yet, but the first pictures do: The keyboard is still there, as is the greenish screen. But it is less bulky and, despite the retro look, is probably equipped with a camera. Mobile phones without a camera are no longer sold because the mouse doesn’t bite off a thread or the snake bites its tail like in “Snake”, perhaps the most famous of all mobile phone games. Another classic within a classic. You played until the indestructible battery eventually ran out. Whether “Snake” will be included again in the new edition of the Nokia Fossil remains silent. Also whether you can listen to music on it – for example “Mambo No. 5”, the most successful song of 1999. If not, we’ll just send each other a ringtone code!
