A €211 million project has been launched to improve the Barberino-Calenzano section of the A1 motorway.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, under the leadership of Matteo Salvini, has given the green light to the plan of interventions aimed at strengthening and guaranteeing the safety of the motorway network.
Once the work is completed, the highway will be significantly upgraded from two to four northbound lanes. This improvement will have a significant impact on the quality of road connections.
The expansion of the motorway is related to the construction of the Santa Lucia tunnel, which was opened to traffic in 2022, as part of a large upgrade program called Variante di Valico.
Work will begin within a month and is expected to be completed by January 2027.
