HLW Kufstein: Survey shows youth’s desire for a leisure pass

Students from HLW Kufstein started a survey that shows the needs and wishes of young people in the region. This could result in better event promotion and discounts.

KUFSTEIN. Young people in the Kufstein district want more and cheaper leisure and cultural offerings – this is shown by a survey by students from the 5DHW of HLW Kufstein.

648 were surveyed online

You have practically carried out an EU project as part of a teaching project in the subject of European Economics. Together with the leader association KUUSK (Kufstein and the surrounding area, Untere Schranne – Kaiserwinkl) they started an online survey among young people in the Kufstein district and the region. The aim was to evaluate how best to introduce a leisure and culture pass. 648 young people were surveyed, most of whom came from the district.

More application on “TikTok”

When it comes to culture, the young people surveyed were particularly interested in rock and pop concerts, with almost 70 percent voting in favor. Compared to leisure activities, attractive cultural activities are, according to the survey results, less popular among young people. “From our point of view, cultural offerings should be advertised more to the target group of young people,” says student Lea Lechthaler. Cultural offerings should therefore be increasingly advertised on channels such as “TikTok”.
According to the survey creators’ assessments, there are too few cultural and leisure activities specifically for young people; most of the offers in the region are aimed at adults. This could also be a communication problem. Young people may often not even find out about events that would be of interest to them.

Expansion and reduction required

Sports such as skiing or amusement parks in particular are very expensive these days, the students explain. When it comes to leisure activities, the topics that were most important to those surveyed were swimming, cinema and skiing/snowboarding.

“The opportunities for young people in the outdoor area should be better expanded,”

says student Selina Koidl. “Most leisure activities are very expensive, especially for young people. From our point of view, it would make sense to introduce a discount pass so that young people can do more,” emphasizes student Lea Lechthaler.

Central event calendar and map

The results will now be presented to the relevant authorities and organizations in order to discuss possible measures to implement the young people’s wishes. The developed results also provide input for the KUUSK leader association, says Katharina Huber from the KUUSK regional management. “A map is also being considered as part of the ‘KUUSK family-friendly region’,” explains Huber. Discounts for young people should also be made available here.
Something is also happening when it comes to events: “We have immediately taken up the topic of advertising (for events, note). We are creating a central event calendar where you can see at a glance every month what cultural offerings, theater performances, etc. are on offer.” says Johannes Spiss, youth coordinator for the KUUSK region. The event calendar will then also be advertised via Instagram and Facebook. Among other things, the aim is to create further development opportunities for young people in the form of workshops and training courses.
