Very few people knew Pablo Escobar as a good man with a warm heart. Escobar’s only son, named Juan Pablo Escobar Henao after his father, now his name is Sebastijan Marokin and for him Pablo Escobar was the best father in the world. Marroquin now has his own family and a successful career, but the burden of his father’s dangerous legacy has never stopped following him. For years he chose to remain in the shadows as an ordinary citizen and lived in anonymity.

He now lives in Buenos Aires and works as an architect and writer. In 2014, after coming to terms with his past, Marokin came forward and published a book entitled “Pablo Escobar: My father.” The book became an international bestseller because after many years he decided to break his silence and reveal all the secrets. In the book, Marokin relives his childhood and discovers everything about his father.

Complicated childhood

Pablo Escobar’s son, in the latest interview he gave a month ago, talked about how he knew who his father was at the age of seven. Sebastian Marroquin said that Pablo himself approached him and said that he was a criminal. With a father who was once listed as one of the richest men in the world – with a reported net worth of $25 billion – Marroquin led an extravagant childhood. Among the property they had there were private jets and a private zoo. As a child, Marroquin lived on thousands of hectares of land with around 200 animals such as elephants, ostriches, zebras, camels and giraffes right in his backyard.

But their idyllic life took an abrupt turn when Escobar ordered the assassination of Colombian Justice Minister Rodrigo Lar and the family was on the run. According to interviews given by Marrokinthe family lived in small, dirty houses. Thanks to their last namecountries such as Germany and the United Kingdom have also denied them entry or asylum. In the end, they were granted entry to Argentina.

Atonement for his father’s mistakes

Although the life of Pablo Escobar was filled with violence, the Moroccan himself advocates the opposite. As a pacifist, he firmly believes that violence begets violence; he also publicly acknowledged his father’s wrongdoings and condemned his actions. He dedicated his book Pablo Escobar: My Father to Escobar with the words “to my father, who showed me which way not to go”. Also, Narkos, a hit TV series that ran for three seasons, is one that Marokin has repeatedly warned the public about.

“My father was much more cruel than shown in the series. He terrorized the whole countryMarokin once said in an interview. You have to be responsible when you tell this story. There are thousands of victims in Colombia who deserve respect. The show creates a culture where it’s cool to be a drug dealer. Young people all over the world write me yes they want to be drug dealers and ask for help. Marokin has repeatedly told people not to follow in his father’s footsteps“, apart from the good that Escobar did in his life. This included building churches, hospitals, stadiums and public houses.
