After being eliminated in the League Cup, Sporting showed no mercy to Casa Pia and completely dominated the team coached by Pedro Moreira.
Coates was the first to score, after heading in a cross from Nuno Santos and soon after, Viktor Gyokeres returned to the goals by touching in after a pass from Pedro Gonçalves.
Soon after, it was Pote who was responsible for scoring the 3-0, three minutes after the previous goal. Casa Pia couldn’t breathe and a tackle by Gyokeres (after a great play by Nuno Santos) led to a penalty.
The Swede didn’t miss from the 11 meter mark, a goal that takes Gyokeres to surpass Simon Banza on the list of top scorers in the Portuguese League. However, the headaches for Casa Pia were not over yet. In a stunning counterattack, a loss of the ball by Edwards gave Trincão the opportunity to make it 5-0.
A devastating result at half-time for Leão, who responded in the best way to the defeat in Leiria.
The second half started with the game practically resolved but even so, Sporting did not take their foot off the accelerator. After returning from CAN, Geny Catamo took advantage of a ball at the edge of the area and neatly beat Ricardo Baptista for the sixth time in the match.
The same Catamo assisted for Coates’ encore, after a good triangulation with Hjulmand. In stoppage time, Trincão took advantage of a ball outside the area to score twice in the match.
The best result of the Portuguese League 23/24 so far. With the strong result achieved this Monday, Sporting did not let the lead slip away to rival Benfica, achieving not only the three points but also the best performance of this season.
