The protagonist of the biography is Father Enrico Pozzoli, the missionary of the Charity Church who baptized the young Bergerio, and the author is Ferruccio Pallavera. Pope Francis also prefaced this new book, recalling this model of faith in the preface.
The Pope wrote: “All people who encounter special difficulties will turn to Father Pozzuoli for help, confident that he will do everything we can to help. We will also turn to him when we need advice. Father Pozzuoli seeks truth from facts. He found anomalies. The situation is expressed in a unique way. If he grabs the top of his head with his hands, scratches his head with five fingers, and chuckles in surprise, this is the only action he is impatient. He has excellent judgment and gives people a lot of advice. Therefore, people People admire him a lot.”
In 1955, the young Bergerio decided to become a priest and was the first to tell his father the decision of the seminary. The Pope said, “I know that he knows me better than my mother. In fact, he immediately showed impassioned appearance, but my mother’s reaction was very different. She replied that I should spend more time thinking before coming back. Make a decision, and I’d better finish university first and then graduate.”
Two years later, Bergerio’s health turned red. He recalled: “In August 1957, I started to feel constant tingling in my right lung. My body collapsed and I was rushed to the hospital. I was very weak and could not stand on my feet. They carried me on a stretcher. “At that time, Bergrio almost died of a lung infection. The upper part of his right lung lobe was therefore removed.
When Bergrio told Father Pozzuoli that he intended to become a Jesuit, Father Pozzuoli agreed with his decision and did not propose to persuade Bergorio to enter the Church of Mercy. The Pope pointed out: “Fr Pozzuoli always respects my choice. He is not the kind of priest who persuades people to change their minds. After he got the news, he told me that the Jesuits were willing to accept me in the seminary in March of the following year. It was November. He further said that during those four months, it was not convenient for me to stay at home. And I had to recover my body, because the operation I had was very physically exhausting. So he went to his direct supervisor and the Charity Association was in the cloth. The inspector from Buenos Aires described my situation.”
This new book will hold several presentations. One of them was held on November 12 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rome.
