Infarmed warns of the risks of medications with pseudoephedrine for hypertensive and kidney patients

Infarmed recommends patients with hypertension and kidney disease not to take medications with pseudoephedrine.

The medicines in question are used to relieve cold and flu symptoms, such as headaches, fever and pain, allergic rhinitis or vasomotor rhinitis.

The recommendation is contained in the circular “Medicines containing Pseudoephedrine: New measures to minimize the risk of serious undesirable effects”, published on the Infarmed website.

The authority emphasizes that these medicines may be risk factors for the development of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (CRVS).

Infarmed lists medications with pseudoephedrine that should be avoided by patients with hypertension or kidney disease, namely: Actifed, tablet; Actifed, syrup; Aerinaze, modified-release tablet; Aspirin Complex, granules for oral suspension; Cegrinaso, film-coated tablet; Claridon, modified-release tablet; Dinaxil, tablet; Grinhals, film-coated tablet; Holsigrip, tablet; Sinutab II, tablet.
