Martine Lunde is a celebrity. And influences. Famous for being famous.

As far as I know, she has never done anything beyond appearing in various reality shows.

Nasegrus tribute

Maria Ludvigsen wrote in Nettavisen a sarcastic tribute to her for her efforts in “The Game”, a tribute so strong that one would think Lunde had solved the cancer mystery. Or created peace in the Middle East. Or something on that level.

But no, she just sat in a cellar and counted beans with, among others, Erik Thorstvedt and otherwise behaved nicely.

New celebrity times

Whereas before you had to be called Roald Amundsen or Gunnar Sønsteby to call yourself a celebrity, it is a little different today.

To put it gently.

Before, you had to go to the South Pole or chase the Germans out of the country. Today, a TikTok account is sufficient.

Today, the flora of celebrities and celebrity programs is more rampant than flat lice in a hippie collective in the 70s.

It is impossible to keep up with everything, if you are not insured, retired or devote all your free time to it.

So there we sit, then, idly following the apparent conflicts on “Farmen Kjendis,” who gets the grumpiest in “71 degrees North,” and who is the sleaziest in “The Game.”

The knowledge that disappeared

Most things are better now than before, but we have certainly lost something along the way.

Knowledge, i.e. not just about the latest cosmetic intervention trend on the influencer front, but broad knowledge.

Before there was a television channel, NRK, and like most monopolists they could broadcast whatever the hell they wanted, we watched it anyway.

With the result that we were well informed about the Southern Sami, grazing opportunities for wild sheep in Western Norway and how the salmon spawn in the Tanae river.

Taking one for the team: Stupefying and devastating

Now one can of course hold this against the author of the article; Arrogant, elitist, moody, white middle aged man, what does he know about celebrities and shows today? Like?

Well. I’m not going to brag about being up to date on the latest TikTok trends. But someone has to take one for the team. And all these celebrity shows and influencers are dumbing down and destructive.

Today, most people probably know more about the various body parts of Sophie Elise than they do about salmon spawning.

Now I’m not saying that the latter is more important, or that our quality of life will improve, but still. It gives a broader perspective.

It may seem like a trifle.

But in a larger perspective, salmon spawning is perhaps more important than Sophie Elise’s ass. As incredible as it may sound, in our everyday media life.

If only they added something to us

But now if only these influencers and celebrity shows brought us something, something or other of value, apart from mindless entertainment in the form of contrived conflicts, intrigue, flirting, prayer counting, homesickness, restylan lips, butt implants and self tanning, yes just something that extends beyond that that they should boost their own market value in order to become part of the celebrity round where they repeat themselves from program to program.

Something. Please.
