The 2024 mother bonus has been released by INPS with an official circular for those who have at least two children (on an experimental basis for 2024, then we are talking about 3 children), to obtain up to 3 thousand euros a year. This is an incentive intended only for permanent female employees and is part of a measure of the Budget Law to revive the birth rate in Italy.

The circular from the Social Security Institute, which has been awaited for some time, clarifies how the Bonus works and underlines that it will also be paid in the January month, for those who are permanent employees with at least two children, for the provision of the 2024.

The Mothers’ Bonus is part of the so-called birth package, wanted by Giorgia Meloni. “We want to establish that a woman who gives birth to at least two children has already made an important contribution to society and therefore the State partly compensates by paying social security contributions. We want to dismantle the narrative according to which the birth rate is a disincentive to work. We want to incentivize who gives birth to children and wants to work”.

In practice, the incentive provides for the exemption of the social security contributions paid by female workers, 9.19% of the salary, up to a maximum of 3 thousand euros per year for those who have three children (and on an experimental basis for those who have two children, for the current year). The maximum exemption is 250 euros per month. It exhausts the maximum exemption that can be obtained with the six-point cut provided for by the budget law for workers with a salary not exceeding 2,692 euros. The measure does not fall within the notion of state aid, as underlined by INPS.

The benefit is extended, for 2024 only, to mothers of at least two children, until the last child turns ten. The bonus starts at the birth of the second child for 2024 and of the third in 2025 and 2026: it ends with the eighteenth birthday of the last child for mothers with three children and at the tenth birthday of the last child in 2024 for those with two children .
It applies to employees in the public and private sector, to those in the agricultural sector, to those with an apprenticeship contract or for temporary work. However, domestic workers are excluded. The bonus is provided regardless of the level of salary.
How to apply for the 2024 Mom Bonus

The application is made to INPS, communicating the number of children and their tax code. The request, if necessary, can also be presented directly by the employer.
