A European official said that negotiations aimed at resuming a nuclear agreement between Iran and major powers may resume in early September this year, and indicated that Iran is ready to resume negotiations that have been suspended for several weeks.

The European official added that all parties have reached a consensus that once the formation of a new Iranian government is completed, negotiations may resume in the Austrian capital Vienna.

He added that the Iranians should form a government and nominate a new foreign minister, and then appoint a negotiating team to Vienna.

He mentioned that Enrique Mora, the EU’s negotiator in charge of the Iranian nuclear issue, held talks in Tehran last Thursday when he attended the inauguration of Iran’s new President Ibrahim Lacey. He said that the atmosphere of these talks was very positive.

According to sources, Mora met with Iranian diplomat Hussein Amir Abdullahian, who is a candidate for the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the new government, and the talks are of great significance because he played the role of transmitting information. The concerns raised by Iran’s nuclear activities in recent weeks.

The source explained that “the Iranians told him that they intend to resume the Vienna talks as soon as possible based on the text on the table when the negotiations were suspended on June 30.”

Disputes and consequences

In view of the differences between the United States and Iran on a number of issues, the possibility of resuming the Vienna talks at the beginning of next month sparked discussion.

Despite repeated claims that progress has been made in the negotiations in the Austrian capital since the beginning of April this year, the negotiations still face many complications, especially the United States’ efforts to include Iran’s missile programs and activities in the region into the scope of the negotiations.

Last Thursday, the United States called on Iranian President Ibrahim Lacey to seize the opportunity after taking office and quickly return to the Vienna negotiations.

At that time, Ned Price, a spokesperson for the US State Department, stated that the United States was prepared to defend its own interests and national security when necessary.

US officials have repeatedly emphasized that the Vienna talks cannot continue indefinitely, calling on Iran to take appropriate measures to re-fulfil its commitments under the 2015 agreement in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

On the other hand, Lacey emphasized the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on Iran, and he welcomes any diplomatic plan to achieve this goal.
