Despite global crises such as the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and despite enormous social challenges such as migration, Easter is a time of hope and joy. This was highlighted by the Primate of Ireland, Archbishop Eamon Martin, in his Easter message.
According to ancient Christian representation, the cross is the “tree of life,” according to the Archbishop of Armagh. He referred to a work of art created in 1982 by the sculptor Imogen Stuart in his cathedral, a bronze crucifix that shows Jesus already risen, so to speak. The depiction combines Good Friday and Easter and is “a vision of hope,” said the archbishop.
Especially in today’s crises, believers should remember that the cross of Christ is the tree of life. “The suffering and resurrection of Christ are our hope and our inspiration to heal broken hearts and bring good news to a wounded humanity.”
