Israel it reopened Wednesday the Kerem Shalom crossing, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, to allow the entry of humanitarian aid: the reopening is particularly important because yesterday, Tuesday, the Rafah crossing was also closed, where the Israeli army started a series of military operations and resumed bombing. The Kerem Shalom crossing, with Israel, had been closed since Sunday, after a rocket attack claimed by Hamas which caused the death of four Israeli soldiers and the wounding of ten. Before its closure, over 120 trucks of humanitarian aid passed through the gate every day: with the closure, the flow of aid and fuel, necessary for the generators that supply electricity, was effectively blocked.
The reopening was favored by strong pressure from the US government on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanyahu. However, the Rafah crossing with Egypt is currently still closed. The Israeli army has occupied the area and is preparing for a ground invasion of the city, an operation particularly feared due to the humanitarian consequences it could have on the approximately 1.4 million civilians who have taken refuge there, fleeing from other cities of the Strip already invaded and bombed by Israel.
