*No, that is not a grammatical error. You are confused? Then you are not alone.

Purely theoretically: If you want to go south during the spring break, there’s a good chance you’ll go to Ticino – despite the sporadic traffic jams on the Gotthard. And anyone who is currently packing but doesn’t know which clothes should come with them will – also very likely – consult the weather forecasts.

Also assume that this person does not have a weather app, but googles “Weather Ticino” and clicks on the second Google result, the SRF Meteo page. Then your eyes will probably be wide open – according to forecasts, temperatures there are currently expected to be around 40 degrees, with bright sunshine.

If you look closely, you won’t be able to guess the “mistake” from the altitude of the place called “Ticino”. The information should be about right – but the weather?!

We ask SRF Meteo.

“It will definitely be warm, but just 40 degrees would be a lot.”

Gaudenz Flury

Gaudenz Flury from SRF Meteo explains: “We were not immediately aware that when Google searches for ‘Ticino’, our app takes users directly to the place ‘Ticino’ in Guinea.” We need to take a closer look at this, said the moderator. This Google reference is particularly confusing because “the country is not listed again in the forecasts on our app.”

Since SRF Meteo is high on Google trust enjoys, i.e. is rated with high credibility by the search engine, the page with the result “Weather Ticino” appears in second place. As a result, weren’t there already numerous Swiss people who were surprised, or perhaps already happy, about mid-summer temperatures? (And were deceived in the most brutal way, at least at Easter?)

Yes, says Gaudenz Flury: “Probably for this reason there were around 1,800 visits from Switzerland in February and around 5,000 visits to Ticino and Guinea in March. Most of them probably unintentionally.” Anyone who searches for “Ticino” directly via the SRF Meteo app or homepage will immediately receive a selection of places with that name from all over the world – divided by country, according to the moderator. He adds: “The right forecast for the ‘Ticino’ you are looking for in the country you are looking for can be easily found and selected via our app and homepage.”

By the way, there is a place called Ticino not only in the West African country of Guinea, but also in Germany. There are temperatures around 14 degrees this week. And it rains.

Even if it’s not 40 degrees, it will be much warmer in the Ticino we know: SRF Meteo is reporting temperatures of over 25 degrees for Ascona from Friday. This time it’s true. (lak)

For many people, studying is the best time of their lives. What most people ignore in their embellished review is the learning phase. After all, things go up and down at times. An honest retelling.

It takes place year after year in different corners of the world and is endured several times by millions of people: the exam phase. What happens can actually only be retold in the form of a drama. And that’s exactly what we’re doing here.
