Shogi is an original Japanese game that could be defined a bit like the game of chess. Consisting of a chessboard called Shogiban, made up of 81 boxes arranged in a grid, 9 vertical and 9 horizontal in which the 40 pawns (Koma) are positioned, 20 per player. Each piece has a name and a purpose.

A game that dates back to the Edo period whose rules then evolved over time.

A reality that has also found interest in Italy, so much so that the Shogi Federation (AIS) was founded which has been spreading the culture of this recreational activity since 2018.

In particular, let’s find out something more:

-The Italian Shogi Federation is responsible for the Italian Shogi Championship.
-Responsible for the dissemination of Shogi in Italy.
-Received official recognition from the Japanese Shogi Association (Nihon Shōgi Renmei)
-Publication of the book SHOGI (JAPANESE CHESS), which is the only book in Italian, among other things it was recognized by the Japanese Embassy in Italy as an excellent book. The book was also published in the following languages: Spanish, English and French.
-Publication of the book SHOGI FOR BEGINNERS
-Publication of the book SHOGI FOR CHILDREN WITH ISAMU SAN, this is the only shogi book for children published outside Japan, in the languages: Italian and English
-Publication of the Italian Shogi Magazine.
-He has conducted several interviews with Japanese professional and amateur players recognized in Japan.
-Created the National Ranking of shogi players resident in Italy.
-In the period 2018 – 2021, the Italian Shogi Federation participated in the world Shogi League WSL, which is an internet championship, where players from different countries around the world are found, among other things in this period of time it was also sponsor of this championship which is hosted on the 81dojo website
-In 2022 the Italian Shogi Federation collaborated to add the Italian language to the 81dojo site

-In 2024 we started a new project, which would be the SHOGI WORLD AMATEUR LEAGUE – SWAL, an international shogi group, in which all players in the world are welcome and there will be the WORLD AMATEUR SHOGI CHAMPIONSHIP, which invites all players to play amateur players, to see who the strongest players are and which country they come from.
