Jair Bolsonaro was hospitalized in Manaus for “a condition of dehydration and an infectious skin process”

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) had to be hospitalized in the Amazonian city of Manaus due to erysipelas, a skin condition, as reported on his social networks.

In a brief message posted on Sunday on the X network, Bolsonaro, 69, only said about the illness that afflicts him that it is not known when he will be discharged from the Santa Julia Hospital.

The followers of the far-right leader reacted on the networks with messages of support and calls to pray for his speedy recovery.

Erysipelas is an infectious bacterial disease that affects the skin and subcutaneous tissue, especially the face, and is characterized by the appearance of reddish plaques and producing episodes of fever.

The former president had arrived in Manaus last Friday to participate in a campaign event for the pre-candidacy of federal deputy Alberto Neto for the local mayor’s office and, feeling discomfort, he went to the hospital, although he was not hospitalized until 24 hours later.

As explained by federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto, who released a note about Bolsonaro’s health: “The former president returned to the hospital to continue taking medication and remains under observation for a better evolution of his clinical condition.”

For his part, the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, went to visit the former president. “I left our team available to help with whatever was needed. He stated that he is fine and will soon be 100%,” said the governor in statements reproduced by O Globo.

Bolsonaro “was admitted to the Santa Julia Hospital yesterday (Saturday) morning with symptoms of dehydration and an infectious skin process,” the medical center reported on Sunday in a statement.

”He returned to the hospital after his commitments, where he remains hospitalized for venous antibiotic therapy and hydration,” the statement added.

Bolsonaro (2019-2022) is investigated for an alleged plot to annul the 2022 presidential elections, in which the winner was the current president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a victory that the far-right never recognized.

Due to this investigation, one of those opened upon his return to Brazil, after having spent several months in Orlando (Florida), where he arrived at the end of his mandate, Bolsonaro has retained his passport.
