January, blow to the fixed network and mobile telephony: +770 million euros

From January, telecommunications operators will increase their tariffs, up to +60 euros per year per user, without considering adjustments to inflation.
This is the theme relaunched by Assoutenti, a topic to which we return – again thanks to a consumer association – after having taken stock of the legitimacy of the “escalator” of telephone tariffs.

Starting this January, Italian consumers will face a “telephone shock” of +770 million euros per year, with tariffs for landline, mobile and internet services which, during 2024, will undergo significant increases.

Assoutenti reported this last December 27, speaking of a new blow to citizens’ pockets.

“By analyzing the communications made by telephone operators regarding the upcoming changes to the contractual conditions, we discover that starting from January 1st and throughout 2024, consumers will face continuous price increases” – reports Assoutenti.

In particular:

TIM: Starting from 1 January 2024 the monthly cost for having a copy of the invoice in paper form, where contractually required for landline Internet customers, will go from €3.90 to €4.95, VAT included.

Starting from the first charge after November 26, 2023 the monthly cost of some offers from the TIMVISION range will increase by an amount between €0.99 and €4.99 (VAT included), depending on the specific offer signed by the customer.

VODAFONE: for some offers from renewal after 13/01/2024 the cost of the offer increases by 1.99 euros per month.

For business customers, “scheduled increases” of up to 10% would also be envisaged 12 or 24 months after signing the new contract.

FASTWEB: starting from 01 January 2024 for some landline customers the monthly cost of the offer will increase by an amount between 0.01 euros/month and 4.49 euros/month.

WINDTRE: starting from 1 January 2024 the cost of the service of some WINDTRE landline offers will be increased by 2 euros per month (+VAT for customers with a VAT number).

Starting from 1 March 2024, the cost of the service of some WINDTRE landline offers will be increased by 2 euros per month.

POSTEMOBILE: for the “Web Home” offer starting from 1 January 2024 it will be necessary to adjust the monthly fee to a cost of 22.90 euros from the current 19.90 euros, with a consequent increase of 3 euros per month.

To these increases already planned and communicated by the telephone companies, adjustments linked to inflation will then be added, “as required by the new rules approved by Agcom – explains Assoutenti – For example, for TIM the monthly fee for some fixed network offers will be increased starting from 1 April 2024 by a percentage equal to the inflation index (IPCA) recorded by Istat, increased by a coefficient equal to 3.5%. WindTre, on the other hand, has provided for the right to increase tariffs within the first quarter of the year by a percentage amount equal to the change in the Foi index detected by Istat, establishing a minimum price increase of +5%.“.

Only for the increases already communicated by the managers will the increased expenditure be able to reach +60 euros per year per user, depending on the offer subscribed to – states the president of Assoutenti, Gabriele Melluso To these increases will then be added the tariff adjustments linked to inflation, for an amount between +27 and +30 euros per year per family, equal to a blow that could reach the overall figure of 770 million euros in 2024
