NBA Basketball News: Good news for Los Angeles Lakers fans. Jarred Vanderbilt is increasingly focused on defending the Lakers.
The Lakers have faced some of the best teams in the league in recent weeks, but the schedule has not been smooth as they will continue to face tough opponents. Los Angeles has been up and down, but has shown that they can win meaningful games when things are going their way.
Head coach Darvin Ham appears to have settled on a rotation in recent weeks, although this has resulted in more offense than defense. This shift was necessary because Jarred Vanderbilt has been out since February 1 after he suffered a midfoot injury.
Jarred Vanderbilt has been rehabbing and there is reportedly optimism that he will return before the regular season, Jovan Buha of The Athletic recently reported:
“I heard that Vando is making progress,” said Buha. “It looks like he will be back this season; it’s just a matter of time. Is it two weeks from now, is it four weeks from now? There’s a big difference in terms of when he comes back.” The latest update noted that Vanderbilt has not progressed in his on-court drills, but it appears he has started or will start improving his skills. Vanderbilt has suffered foot injuries before in his career and the medical staff is understandably being very cautious as he attempts to recover from this injury. If Vanderbilt can return at any time, it would be a huge boon for the Lakers, who initially believed he would need surgery to repair the injury. Even though Los Angeles has played better of late, they need Vanderbilt’s versatility on defense and his general energy and speed on the court. Rui Hachimura will likely be the Lakers’ fifth starter given his scoring and size, but Vanderbilt would give the team more size and the ability to switch off the bench. Hopefully he doesn’t suffer any setbacks in his rehabilitation and can return soon.
