The first edition of the Autismo Run Race, the largest inclusive street race in the Northeast, and which is part of João Pessoa’s sports calendar, aimed at this special audience, will take place on April 14th, starting at 6 am, at Largo da Gameleira, Tambaú. The initiative, which aims to raise awareness in society about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and provide the inclusion of corridors in the Capital, is open for registration.
“We will have routes of 200 meters, as well as 3, 5 and 10 kilometers. We are sure that we will have a memorable edition, as the city of João Pessoa has the potential for this. It is a beautiful gesture, an agenda that we must support more and more with great goodwill, and that it is the first of many”, highlighted the Secretary of Youth, Sports and Recreation, Kaio Márcio.
The capital of Paraíba stands out, with pedagogy that stimulates skills and a human perspective on Autism Spectrum Disorder, and also supports development through the practice of healthy sports. The Autism Run aims to awaken people to what autism is and, through sport, provide information and deconstruct prejudices.
The executive director of the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope), Marcus Alves, highlighted that Mayor Cícero Lucena has a policy of welcoming and caring for people, both from an educational and social point of view and with the full development of the human being. He highlighted that the Autism Run is part of the special focus that the City Hall has on the process of social inclusion.
“The race is set in this context of creating social inclusion. Funjope, for example, has already been working with the process of social inclusion through art for two years and four months, with the Somos Capazes – Tardezinha Inclusiva project. Mayor Cícero Lucena won the Autistic Brazil Pride Award, which he will receive on the 2nd, World Autism Awareness Day. So, this month of April is very special, as it puts the topic of autism on society’s agenda, how to care for these people, children, young people and adults on the Autistic Spectrum. And the race is a very important and significant step towards this positive agenda of valuing people with autism and is part of this vision, this vocation, that the Cícero Lucena administration has with social causes. Not just in the aspect of culture, but when we look at education, housing, human rights and social development we see this care to value people and enhance their capabilities”, he stated.
