At a job interview, how the company presents itself to you is also important. One sentence can be toxic.

Many people are nervous when they appear for a job interview. They prepare their speech in advance, what they are going to say and how to present themselves. But sometimes it is much more important how the company presents itself to you, because you will spend a third of the day there.
Jennifer Brick, a career counselor from New York, recently addressed this problem and shared advice for future employees on her TikTok profile. She singled out one toxic phrase used by employers, which is a warning sign for employees.
“If you hear it at a job interview, meeting or business event – run away as soon as possible,” she said then revealed the phrase: “We are a family.”
He adds that seeking loyalty in a “family” work environment puts additional pressure on employees to work even harder to achieve the required results.
“It creates an unhealthy power dynamic. It creates an environment conducive to exploitation — including working overtime, taking on too many redundant tasks and burning out at work because you’d do anything for your family, right?” she said, adding that this seemingly innocent phrase blurs the lines between private and business life.
“You don’t fire or abandon your family. You don’t compromise someone from your family. You don’t underpay your family”she concluded, and many users agreed with her.
“They’ll call you part of the family and then harass you until they force you to quit,” wrote one tiktoker, while another added: “Yeah, I heard that at a job interview and thought, ‘Cool, this is going to be great. Big mistake,” were just some of the comments.
