Jovane Cabral is spending a season on loan at Salernitana, from Serie A, but that doesn’t mean he’s still paying attention to Sporting’s reality. The 25-year-old winger discussed his desire to succeed at the club that formed him and spoke about Viktor Gyokeres’ great season so far.
In an interview with Antena 1, the Cape Verdean who is serving the country at CAN, explained that he intends to take advantage of this loan to evolve and secure a place in the squad next season. “I’m a Sporting fan, I always support Sporting, whether I’m playing or away. I hope that, next season, I’ll be able to go there, do my job and, who knows, stay. Ruben Amorim? We’re very close, he helped me a lot, and he is a great coach. Now it’s time to focus on Salernitana and I wish Sporting good luck as we become champions. I want the fans to believe in the players and continue to give them strength”, he said.
Still on this topic, the striker revealed that he is comfortable playing anywhere in the squad, even if it means playing fewer minutes. “I’m at Sporting to help. There are players with a lot of quality and I can’t always play every game. Whatever I have to do to help, I’ll do. It’s the coach who decides, but I’m one hundred percent happy with what I did at Sporting and I thank you for everything you did for me too.”
Regarding one of the revelations of the season, Viktor Gyokeres, Jovane Cabral seemed surrendered and quite surprised by the level displayed by the Swede. “He’s a monster. He’s at a very high level at Sporting. I’m very happy for him and I hope he continues like this and scores many goals”, highlighted the winger, who has already played 13 games and two goals for Salernitana.
Finally, he also spoke about Sporting’s elimination in the semi-finals of the League Cup, against SC Braga. “I’m always sad [com o afastamento da Taça da Liga]. I think Sporting played very well, but they didn’t get the victory. They have everything in hand to win the championship. I’m going to root for Sporting to be champions”, he concluded.
Trained at Sporting, Jovane Cabral has always been seen as one of the great promises of the Alcochete Academy, but has not yet managed to fulfill the potential that was always indicated to him. He played his entire career with the Lions, with the exception of this period at Salernitana and the half-season at Lazio, in 2021/22.
