Jürgen Klopp praises his designated successor Arne Slot

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp thinks highly of his designated successor Arne Slot.

The 45-year-old is currently coaching in his hometown at Feyenoord, but has now confirmed talks with the Reds. Klopp apparently considers him a suitable successor. “I like the way his team plays football. Some people have told me that he is a very good guy. I like that a lot,” Klopp said at a press conference on Friday. His conclusion: “Good coach, good guy. I’m happy for the club, if he’s the solution then I’ll be more than happy.”

Klopp, for his part, is leaving Liverpool at his own request in the summer after a total of nine years. Slot makes no secret of the fact that he would like to inherit the German. “I want to become the new Liverpool coach. My decision is clear. Feyenoord and Liverpool are in negotiations,” he said publicly.

Update: According to English media reports, Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Feyenoord regarding a move for Slot. The Dutch are said to have rejected an initial offer worth a whopping 10 million euros, but now there seems to have been a clear rapprochement – probably also because of the coach’s explicit desire to change.
