FC Bayern Munich is looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel. But Jürgen Klopp definitely won’t, as his agent explained.

Munich/Liverpool – Thomas Tuchel will leave FC Bayern Munich after the current season, as the German record champions announced. After a mixed season and three bankruptcies in a row, this comes as no surprise. The search for a successor is ongoing, but Jürgen Klopp almost certainly won’t be it.

“Jürgen Klopp will not coach a club or a national team for a year after the current season. It stays that way,” said his advisor Marc Kosicke to the pay-TV channel Sky. This means that the first top candidate to succeed Tuchel is eliminated. The former Mainz and Dortmund player was also discussed as the new national coach after his departure from Liverpool was announced. But Klopp wants to take a break first.

By referring to the upcoming sabbatical year, Kosicke at least made it clear that his client could basically imagine a job as a trainer again.

Things sounded completely different with Klopp himself recently; he even didn’t rule out the end of his career. “If you asked me if I would ever work as a coach again, I would say no. But I don’t know what that feels like,” said the successful coach. He can rule out that he will ever coach a club in England again – out of loyalty to Liverpool FC.

The 56-year-old celebrated great success in his coaching career. With Borussia Dortmund he won the German championship in 2011 and a year later even the double, consisting of championship and cup victory. In 2013 he lost the Champions League final with BVB against FC Bayern. After moving to Liverpool FC in 2015, he became Champions League winner in 2019, English champion in 2020 and cup winner in 2022. In the current season he and his team are back at the top and are aiming for the next title.

Captain Manuel Neuer would have liked to see Klopp as FC Bayern coach. How Bild reported, the keeper recently said at a fan club meeting that Klopp was “definitely a potential candidate” for the coaching job at the record champions. “I think it depends on him. I don’t think FC Bayern has anything against it,” Neuer continued. “Of course it depends primarily on himself.” (smr)
