In March, the sad news came that comedian Kristian Valen (49) and his lover, Karen Ånensen (39), had lost their unborn son.

Ånensen was twelve weeks pregnant when the accident occurred, the child’s heart suddenly stopped beating.

– We are completely devastated

The couple shared the news in a post on Instagram.

“After a bleed, we went for a checkup… our 12 week old baby’s heart stopped beating… we went into shock, right at the hospital I had to ‘give birth’, then surgery, It was a little boy… The sight I will never forget our little mini baby. You were already so much loved,” the post read.

In an interview with VG The couple now opens up further about the grief.

Neither Valen nor Ånensen have children from before, and the joy was therefore enormous when the family addition first became a fact. The couple told VG that everything seemed fine with the fetus and that there was nothing that could have prepared them for the tragic outcome.

A few weeks into the pregnancy, Ånansen discovered a bleed.

– When this happened, I thought “Oh my god, now I’ve lost the child”, she says to VG.

At the hospital, however, they were told that it was a so-called “menstrual bleeding” and that everything should be fine.

But in week 12 it was time for a normal ultrasound examination, where the atmosphere in the room must have suddenly changed among the nurses.

– The doctor said quite frighteningly quickly and coldly: “The child is dead, there is no heartbeat”, Valen tells VG.

After having the message confirmed repeatedly by the doctor, Ånensen is said to have broken down. Then another nightmare followed, where she had to give birth to the dead fetus – in what she describes as “inhuman pain”.

When the fetus was out, Ånensen was put under anesthesia to scrape out the remains of the placenta.

The couple do not hide that it has been a very difficult time, and that they are both still in deep grief. However, they find a lot of comfort and support in each other.

When they themselves shared the news on social media in March, they emphasized that they are not giving up their desire to increase their family. Ånensen also clarifies this to VG.

– Children are something we must have. And I hope it happens soon. Hopefully I will get pregnant again. As soon as possible. I hope so, she says and adds that she has frozen eggs if it does not happen naturally.
