Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Polda Metro Jaya has arrested an arrogant Fortuner driver with a fake TNI service plate with the initials PWGA who crashed into a journalist’s car on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road.

It is known that this case started with an argument between PWGA, who was driving a Fortuner car with TNI service plates, and another driver.

In a video circulating on social media, PWGA even admitted to being a member of the TNI. However, afterwards he corrected his statement and admitted that it was his older brother who was a member of the TNI.

After going viral on social media, the TNI service number plate 84337-00 used by PWGA was recorded as belonging to another person, namely Marsda TNI (Ret.) Asep Adang Supriyadi.

Asep then reported the PWGA to Polda Metro Jaya on Sunday (14/4) and was recorded with the number LP/B/2005/IV/2024/SPKT/POLDAMETROJAYA.

CNNIndonesia.com summarizes the latest facts regarding the case of counterfeiting TNI service plates:

Became a suspect and was immediately detained

Kasubdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Titus Yudho Ully said that his party had named PWGA as a suspect after being arrested on Tuesday (16/7) evening in the Cempaka Putih area, Central Jakarta.

After being named a suspect, Titus said PWGA was immediately detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center.

“He has been named a suspect and detained,” he said when confirmed via short message, Wednesday (17/4).

For his actions, Titus said that PWGA was charged with Article 263 of the Criminal Code regarding forgery of documents which could cause losses with a maximum threat of 6 years in prison.

Hide the car at your sister’s house

Titus said that after an argument with another driver went viral on social media, the perpetrator immediately fled to his brother’s house with his wife.

“So since that incident, he (the Fortuner driver) went to his brother’s house with his wife,” he explained.

PWGA also kept the Toyota Fortuner car which was used covered by a tarpaulin. Meanwhile, the fake TNI service plates used have been thrown away.

“The car was at the house covered with a tarpaulin covering the car, the plates were thrown away,” he said.

The service plate belongs to an older brother who is a retired TNI officer

Meanwhile, Head of Unit 2, Resmob Sub-Directorate, Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Anggi Fauzi Hasibuan, said the service plate came from PWGA’s older brother, a retired TNI officer with the initials T.

“So he is not a member of the TNI. When his brother was still active until he retired, he was given the service number plate. Actually, it was his brother who used it,” he said when contacted, Wednesday (17/4).

However, Anggi said, the service plate number 84337-00 used by PWGA’s brother had expired in 2018.

After expiry, the number plate was intended for retired TNI Marshal TNI (Purn) Asep Adang Supriyadi for operational service vehicles as a professor at the Defense University.

The motive is to avoid odd-even

Based on the results of the examination, Anggi said that the official plate was deliberately used by the perpetrator to avoid the odd-even rule that applies during the 2024 Eid homecoming period.

“The suspect’s confession was that his brother gave it to him. He borrowed it, the reason for borrowing it was, if for example there was an odd or even number, he just used it,” he explained.

“On even dates he used the official number plate but with the condition that he had to get permission from his older brother first,” he added.

Fake TNI service plates thrown away in Lembang

Anggi added that to hide its actions, PWGA immediately threw away the fake TNI service plates that went viral on social media in the Lembang area, West Java.

“TNI plates have been thrown away in the Lembang area and members are still looking for them around the location in Lembang. Members are heading that way,” he explained.

Anggi said that based on the suspect’s confession, this was done by PWGA after receiving news that a video recording of an argument between him and journalists on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road went viral on social media.

After that, the perpetrator, who was on holiday at the hotel, contacted his older brother with the initials T, who is a retired TNI officer. Meanwhile, he said, the perpetrator was directed by his older brother to immediately throw away the fake service plate he was using.

“He admitted that he had made a fuss and then someone made him viral and now he has gone viral on social media. Then his brother directed him, you use this (plate), it happens, right, like that, just throw it away, the number plate,” he said.

“On that basis, he threw away the number plate. Now the suspect is being called again to show the location where he threw away the number plate, to be used as evidence,” he added.
