The page for candidates for the Presidency of the Republic published the resume of Laura Sarabia for the position of director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency (Dapre), a position to which she will replace Carlos Ramón González. Sarabia leaves her role as director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS) to return to the front row of President Gustavo Petro’s officials.

Although it has not been confirmed what will happen to González, who in recent months had established himself as the president’s trusted man, officials from his office confirmed to this newspaper that Petro made him a couple of offers to remain in the Government. .

Sarabia had arrived at the DPS in early September 2023, three months after leaving Petro’s chief of staff amid the Marelbys Meza nanny scandal and the alleged irregular financing of the presidential campaign. However, despite that movement, she always remained close to the Casa de Nariño and the president.

In fact, on Petro’s recent trip to Germany, to participate in the Munich Security Conference, Sarabia was the one who led the Government delegation, with the notable absence of Carlos Ramón González.

The change in this important position in the Palace leaves questions about what will happen to the power that González would have consolidated in the Presidency, since his time in the entity was also reflected in the arrival of officials he completely trusted who currently handle key issues such as contracting of the entity and even the agenda of the head of state.

The possibility of castling remains in the air; that is, González’s move to Social Prosperity, an entity that executes close to $15 billion and works in coordination with the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), the Comprehensive Care and Reparation Unit for Victims, among others, to guide the government’s social policy.

On the other hand, Petro’s decision proves that Sarabia is probably his most trusted official and that, from now on, she will be a key figure for the internal management of the government and the cabinet, but also for the dialogue that Petro will have. and his ministers with Congress, in the midst of the final process of social reforms.

With this move, uncertainty also returns about possible changes in Petro’s cabinet, since it is not ruled out that the so-called castling of Carlos Ramón González will be made in a ministerial portfolio, which would unleash a new shock.
