Leader of Sustainability 2023, the award to WINDTRE

Il Sole 24 Ore and Statista have awarded WINDTRE the recognition of ‘Leader of Sustainability 2023’. The Italian leader in mobile communications has entered the ranking of the 200 large Italian companies awarded as the most sustainable, in the light of a research that evaluated around 1,500 companies based in Italy and 45 indicators in the three dimensions of sustainability. The recognition certifies WINDTRE’s constant commitment to the development of active projects in the social, environmental and economic fields.

Ours is a story of closeness, with a network made up of people and human connections at the centre“, he claims Federica Manzoni, Sustainability and Quality Certification Director of WINDTRE. “We are very pleased with the progress we are making towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. Collective work was put in place which involved representatives of all company areas and external stakeholders. Among WINDTRE’s 10 objectives within the ESG approach – environmental, social and governance – we have implemented initiatives aimed at various social categories and communities. I am thinking of the Borghi Connessi and NeoConnessi programmes, which in fact have the aim of connecting small businesses and raising awareness of an increasingly responsible use of the Internet and technology”.

On the subject of digital responsibility, WINDTRE has been carrying out ‘NeoConnessi’ since 2018, a digital and media education initiative created to raise awareness among children of the correct and responsible use of the network which to date has reached more than one million children and families. With ‘Connected villages’, a project launched in 2022 to reduce the territorial, economic, cultural and personal digital divide of small villages, the company also supports small Italian municipalities by facilitating their rebirth and enhancement. Furthermore, in terms of cybersecurity, the operator has set the goal of ‘Companies 100% safe’, for the IT security of Italian companies.

The commitment to promote well-being and inclusion at all levels is also constant. As far as gender equality is concerned, WINDTRE, recognized as a Top Employer for the fifth consecutive year, confirmed once again this year the Equal-Salary certification, received in 2022 as the first telco in the world, for Diversity & Inclusion and equity policies in payroll processes. In the green area, various actions have been implemented to reduce CO2 emissions, in 2022 reduced by 25% compared to 2020 and by 40% compared to 2017 and numerous activities to make offices and shops increasingly sustainable: reconditioned products, virtual business cards to reduce paper waste, ECO-SIM cards produced with 100% recycled plastic material and sustainable mobility for company offices. As part of the ‘Smart Cities’ project, the company also makes technologies, services and skills available to public administrations to support the digital and sustainable transformation of Italian cities.

Overall, the WINDTRE sustainability strategy is summarized in the corporate ESG plan which includes ten objectives with a horizon of 2024, 2025 and 2030, which are concrete, measurable and integrated into the business.
