Lene Nystrøm had a panic attack on stage

The pop group “Aqua” had its big breakthrough 25 years ago with the song “Barbie Girl”, and Lene Nystrøm (50), René Dif (56), Søren Rasted (53) and Claus Norréen (53) became world stars overnight.

– Felt let down

On Thursday, the Danish-Norwegian pop group had a concert in Perth, Australia, when something unexpected happened. According to the local media Perthnow Nystrøm burst into tears on stage.

Among other things, the media describes the concert as “catastrophic”, and radio producer Shelby Brady, who was present at the concert, says that Nystrøm disappeared from the stage, and returned an hour later without his stage costume – wearing pyjamas.

– She actually gave up at one point. During “Turn Back Time” she put down the microphone and let the audience sing it. She seemed so outside, says Brady to the local newspaper.

Fuels romance rumours

Also the national media News.com.au discusses the concert and calls it a “bizarre experience”.

Later, concertgoers are also said to have written that Nystrøm must have had “a panic attack”.

Aqua manager Anders Nørgaard explains VG that Nystrøm had a panic attack on stage, and that the band was gone from the stage for just under an hour. He also says that things are going well with Nystrøm now.

On Saturday morning, Nystrøm shares a post on Instagram where she explains the situation. There she confirms that she had an anxiety attack.

“If you have experienced anxiety, you understand the intense physical and psychological struggle it is. But there was no question of me not doing the opening night in Perth, after not being in Australia for five years. I insisted on finishing the show and I am eternally grateful to you who cheered me back on stage. Thank you!”, writes Nystrøm.

She also thanks the rest of the band and crew.

According to Danish See and Listen five more concerts are planned in Australia, but several of them have been downgraded to smaller venues due to weak ticket sales.

So far, Se og Hør has not succeeded in getting comments from Lene Nystrøm or Aqua.
