Libya: the new foreign minister Gaddur released

Hafed Gaddur, Foreign Minister of the newly formed Libyan National Stability Government, was released by the militia that had kidnapped him yesterday along with two other members of Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha’s executive. The same ex-ambassador to Italy made it known in a statement published on Facebook.

Gaddur had been kidnapped in Misrata by the “Joint Operations Force” militia. Gaddur is a diplomat who has more than ten years of ties with Italy having been among other things ambassador to Rome (between 2006 and 2012), to the Vatican and San Marino. The last Libyan representative to the EU, he also studied at Sapienza and was consul in Palermo for 13 years.

Moreover, the Bashagha executive lost another piece even before taking the oath: the Minister of Economy, Gamal Salem Shabaan, resigned denouncing the lack of transparency and regularity of the vote of confidence that worries Guterres.
