List of 11 Senior National Team Players Who Can Strengthen the Indonesian U-23 National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup

Bola.net – Shin Tae-yong will coach the Indonesian U-23 National Team at the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup stage, April 2024. He can also call 11 players from his team in the 2023 Asian Cup to this event.

Shin Tae-yong actually called up eleven players under the age of 23 for the 2023 Asian Cup which ended for his team because they failed in the round of 16.

In the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, the U-23 Indonesian National Team is in Group A with the hosts, the U-23 Qatar National Team, the U-23 Australian National Team and the U-23 Jordan National Team.

The eleven players are Elkan Baggott who is 21 years old, Rizky Ridho 22 years old, Marselino Ferdinan 19 years old, Witan Sulaeman 22 years old, and Rafael Struick 20 years old.

Not the FIFA Calendar

Apart from that, there are still Pratama Arhan who is 22 years old, Hokky Caraka 19 years old, Ramadhan Sananta 21 years old, Ernando Ari 21 years old, Ivar Jenner 20 years old, and Justin Hubner 20 years old.

The problem is, the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup is not included in the FIFA calendar and FIFA Matchday schedule so the clubs who own the eleven players are not obliged to release them to the Indonesian national team.

Shin Tae-yong may still be able to summon players who compete domestically, such as Rizky Ridho, Witan Sulaeman, Ernando Ari, Ramadhan Sananta, and even Hokky Caraka with PSSI’s intervention.

However, usually, negotiations with foreign clubs are not easy. Teams in Asia and Europe adhere to the rules for releasing players for events outside FIFA Matchday.

Meanwhile, the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup will determine Shin Tae-yong’s fate. If the Indonesian U-23 National Team is able to advance to the quarter-finals, its contract will be extended for three years.

Shin Tae-yong’s term of service with the senior national team and the Indonesian national team which started in January 2020 will end in June 2024.

The architect from South Korea has fulfilled his target by bringing the senior national team to the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup. Shin Tae-yong just needs to fulfill his demands for the U-23 Indonesian National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

“If the U-23 national team can qualify from the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup group stage, that’s the promise,” said PSSI Chairman, Erick Thohir, on Sunday (28/1/2024).

“So now, the Indonesian national team has reached the top 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup. Later, there will be 16 teams for the U-23 national team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, so if they qualify for the top eight, that’s the target,” added Erick Thohir.
