This weekend, not only the best ski jumpers but also, like last year, the best female ski jumpers in the world will be competing on the Mühlenkopfschanze. Men and women will each compete in two individual competitions in front of an expected 40,000 spectators over the course of the weekend.

Most of them are hoping for a German home win, like the one last achieved in 2020 by local hero Stephan Leyhe. Katharina Althaus (now Katharina Schmid) was successful here among women last year.

“I was already able to win in Willingen and show long flights. I’ll do that again this weekend. And then hopefully we will have something to celebrate again,” says the 2017 Willingen winner, looking optimistically towards the upcoming home World Cup.
“Our athletes come back from the Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm highly motivated with two medals. Willingen is always characterized by an excellent organization, the many, many helpers ensure a huge event,” explained Stefan Horngacher in advance.
The national coach also emphasized the special importance of the upcoming weekend, in which the women will be holding their competitions in parallel: “We finally have a World Cup together with the women again, and we are particularly looking forward to that!”
In addition to Wellinger, Horngacher has also nominated Karl Geiger, Stephan Leyhe, Pius Paschke, Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann. Hoffmann will receive the starting place from Constantin Schmid after he previously secured the additional quota place for the World Cup team in the Continental Cup. Schmid is initially returning to the Continental Cup, which will be held in Lillehammer this weekend.
