JAKARTA – The 6.5 magnitude earthquake that rocked Garut, West Java, Saturday (27/4/2024) evening did not have the potential for a tsunami. The public is advised to be careful of aftershocks.
Based on data on the website of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the location of the earthquake was 151 km southwest of Garut Regency, West Java.
The earthquake occurred at 23.29 WIB. The earthquake coordinates were 8.42 South Latitude and 107.26 East Longitude.
“Mag: 6.5, 27-Apr-24 23:29:47 IWST, Lok: 8.42 South Latitude, 107.26 East Longitude (151 km Southwest KAB-GARUT-JABAR), Kedlmn: 10 Km). No Tsunami potential,” wrote BMKG.
BMKG advises the public to be careful of possible aftershocks.
