Maarten Paes Officially Becomes an Indonesian Citizen, Finished Being Oathed Today

Jakarta

Maarten Paes has officially become an Indonesian citizen. The 25 year old goalkeeper was sworn in today.

News of Paes’ swearing-in was reported on the Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights website. There is a photo of Paes taking the oath and signing documents to obtain Indonesian citizen status.

From the Ministry of Law and Human Rights website, PSSI was represented by the Media Director, Eko Rahmawanto. “Give the Best to the Nation and State,” said the upload from the @kanwilkumhamdki account, including several photos of the oath taking.

News about taking the oath Paes this is quite surprising. The reason is, PSSI has not yet provided official news or information.

Paes’ naturalization process is quite a long process. He was hampered by FIFA’s rules regarding players who can be naturalized and have never played for another country over the age of 21.

PSSI reportedly filed a lawsuit with CAS, the sports arbitration court, in March 2024.

By obtaining Indonesian citizen status, Paes has a great opportunity to strengthen Indonesia in the remainder of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications. The Garuda squad will face Iraq on June 6 2024 and the Philippines five days later. All matches will be held at home.
