The Oscar winner Moonlight-director Barry Jenkins is back with his first film since that If Beale Street Could Talk. This time he is directing a musical The Lion King-film that serves as both a precursor and sequel to the 2019 remake.
The Lion King by Jon Favreau from 2019 was a direct remake of the 1994 animation with a photorealistic look. IN Mufasa: The Lion King, premiering later this year, we get the backstory of Simba’s father through flashbacks narrated by Rafiki (John Kani). Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. features the voices of young versions of Mufasa and Scar.

Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter return to their roles. Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter will play the daughter of Simba and Nala. There are several actors who will play their characters again, including Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon and John Kani as Rafiki.
Mads Mikkelsen is one of the new actors in The Lion King-the universe. The Dane will play the new character Kiros, a formidable lion with big plans for his pack.

Other members of the cast are Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose and Keith David. Norwegian voice actors will be announced closer to the premiere.
Jeff Nathanson, who wrote The Lion King– the remake, is back as screenwriter. The songs are written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
