Lyon – The two former national players Christoph Kramer and Per Mertesacker do not agree on the name of national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Mertesacker’s analysis on ZDF after the DFB team’s 2-0 win against France in Lyon about the “outstanding” performance of “Marc-André in goal, who has proven that he is a great support” led to a smile from Kramer.
Why? “Because Per den ter Stegen calls Marc-André. That’s what it’s called, but it sounds kind of weird,” Kramer said. “They don’t call him Marc-André, so please. Marc or ter Stegen – but not Marc-André. But it doesn’t matter.”
Ter Stegen (FC Barcelona) replaced Manuel Neuer, who was injured again, on Saturday evening. At the home European Championships in the summer, if he is fit, FC Bayern’s regular goalkeeper will be in the national team’s goal, national coach Julian Nagelsmann had announced.
