Two days after the Robb Elementary School massacre, Joe Garcia also passed away, struck down by a heart attack: for 24 years he had been the husband of Irma Garcia, one of the two teachers killed by Salvador Ramos. The eighteen-year-old who entered the elementary school at 11.40 on Tuesday morning hit the teacher Irma while shielding the children with her body. The investigators told one of her children: Irma and Joe were four, the oldest is 23 years old and has just enrolled in the Marine Corps, the youngest is studying in middle school.

But the pain left no escape even for his father: Joe Garcia died yesterday, two days after the massacre that cost his wife his life: a heart attack struck him without giving him time to be rescued. He confirmed this to the New York Times the grandson, John Martinez. Garcia, 50, had gone to his wife’s memorial in the morning to leave some flowers. When he got home, he told his grandson, “he fell to the ground”.
With the death of Joe Garcia the toll of the tragedy therefore rises to 23 dead – including the young massacre – and 18 injured, including Ramos’s grandmother.
