Mateo Castañeda, lawyer for the president of the republic, Dina Boluarte, assured that he is the victim of a “snare” that culminated in his arrest, which he described as “disproportionate.”
The lawyer briefly testified to journalists upon leaving the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri), where he underwent various tests before being taken to the Lima Prefecture.

“They are setting up a disproportionate trap for me,” said Castañeda as he was taken away in handcuffs after passing toxicology and medical tests, among others.

As recalled, Nicanor Boluarte, brother of President Dina Boluarte, was preliminarily detained in an operation by the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power (Eficcop), authorized by the Judiciary.
According to investigations, the brother of President Dina Boluarte is accused of being the alleged leader of the criminal organization “Waykis en lashadow”, with influence in the appointment of prefects and sub-prefects and their use in the creation of the Ciudadanos por el Perú party.
The arrest warrant issued by the First National Preparatory Investigation Court covers a total of 8 people, including Mateo Castañeda, the president’s lawyer, investigated for the alleged crimes of influence peddling and criminal organization.

Castañeda is accused of asking the Special Team police officers to archive the investigation of the president’s brother, for which he would have used his name, in exchange for keeping them in their positions.
Judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho authorized the registration, reading, viewing and extraction of information from cell phones, CPUs, laptops, tablets and other electronic equipment, as well as the lifting of banking secrecy and the tax reserve.

In addition to Boluarte and Castañeda, Víctor Hugo Torres Merino, Edwin Ugarte Nina, Noriel Chingay Salazar and Zenovia Herrera Vásquez were arrested.
