Thus, May 10 2024 is a public holiday commemorating the 2024 Ascension of Jesus Christ.
The commemoration of the Ascension of Jesus Christ was first declared a holiday in Indonesia based on Presidential Decree Number 24 of 1953 concerning Determination of Rules for Holidays. Through several changes, then through Presidential Decree Number 10 of 1971, the Ascension of Jesus Christ was declared a national holiday.
Apart from that, there is a change in the nomenclature of Isa Messiah to Jesus Christ on national holidays. This is in accordance with Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 8 of 2024 concerning Holidays issued by President Joko Widodo.
World Lupus Day falls on May 10 2024. The commemoration of World Lupus Day aims to increase public awareness about lupus disease which attacks the human immune system.
According to the World Lupus Day website, lupus is a deadly disease that has the potential to take a person’s life. Lupus attacks the human immune system where sufferers experience inflammation and infection in the body’s tissue system. Lupus causes healthy cells in the human body to become damaged.
Quoted from the National Today website, World Lupus Day was first recognized in Canada in 2004. The aim was to raise awareness about a disorder that is little known to the public and can have a tragic impact on individuals who suffer from it and their families.
Apart from that, another aim of World Lupus Day is to draw attention to the world community about the impact of lupus. This annual commemoration emphasizes the need for improved health care services, increased research in the area and treatment of lupus, early treatment and management of Lupus, and better global epidemiological data on Lupus.
A total of 13 countries participated in commemorating World Lupus Day by calling on governments to increase research funding, improve patient services, collect more incidence figures, and increase awareness of Lupus.
