On January 30, 2024 (local time), Mazda North American Operations, which oversees Mazda’s North American business, unveiled its new model, the Mazda CX-70, for the first time in the world.

The CX-70, the third in Mazda’s large product lineup, is a crossover SUV aimed at North America, which the company considers a priority market. In addition to achieving both driving pleasure and environmental safety performance based on Mazda’s unique human-centered philosophy, it is said to have a design and functionality that matches the lifestyles of active customers. It is expected to be released in Canada in spring 2024.

With the CX-70, Mazda enters the two-row midsize SUV segment. The company aims to grow its business and improve its brand power in North America by expanding its lineup of SUVs, which have strong demand. All CX-70 models use plug-in hybrid or 48V mild hybrid electrification technology, and are a presence that will accelerate electrification in the North American market.

The concept of the CX-70 is “Passion Pursuer.” It boasts a sporty design and a spacious and practical cargo space for positive and active customers who enjoy challenging themselves to do what they like and are interested in.

Based on Mazda’s design theme “Kodo – SOUL of MOTION,” the design expresses a sense of life. The powerfully shaped front and rear bumpers, newly designed 21-inch aluminum wheels, an exterior featuring black parts throughout, and a burgundy-based interior emphasize an active lifestyle.

The cargo space features an electric remote fold function that allows the second row seats to be folded down from the tailgate side. It also features a flat floor from the rear sweep opening to the back of the folded second row seats, and three underfloor storage spaces.

Equipped with the latest “Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) with emergency stop support function” (adaptive cruise control + steering assist), it also boasts advances in preventive safety. When using CTS, the system will alert the driver in stages if they drive without their hands or close their eyes, and if the driver does not change their behavior, the system will assist in slowing down and stopping the vehicle, helping to reduce damage in the event of an accident.

There are two types of powertrains: a mild hybrid 3.3-liter straight-six diesel turbo engine and a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a motor. By combining it with a new generation architecture based on rear-wheel drive, the aim is to achieve both the pleasure of controlling the car at will and excellent environmental performance.

It is equipped with a “trailer hitch view” that supports trailer connection, and has a nominal maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. The plug-in hybrid vehicle is equipped with a 1500W power supply function, and is designed not only to serve as a driving partner but also as a companion in life.
