María Corina Machado’s Legal Team Denied Access to File at TSJ

María Corina Machado’s legal representative, Perkis Rocha, stated on Tuesday that they were denied access to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) for the second time to find out the progress of appeals regarding the presidential candidate’s alleged disqualification.

Rocha expressed frustration, stating that they were not given access to the file to examine the procedure and to verify the supposed compliance with the Comptroller General’s Office’s requirements. He also accused the TSJ of endangering the constitutional guarantees of due process and compliance with the Barbados agreement.

Despite the setback, Rocha remains committed to using tools of constitutional law and is confident that the truth will prevail in Machado’s case.

The legal battle stems from a decision by the Comptroller General’s Office to impose a 15-year disqualification on Machado. This action has raised questions about her eligibility to participate in the 2024 elections. The TSJ has given the Comptroller’s Office a 72-hour deadline to provide information regarding the veto, which could have significant implications for Machado’s political future.

Machado has been vocal about the need for “clean” elections and has urged the international community to intervene in ensuring a fair electoral process in the country.

The outcome of this legal battle will not only impact Machado’s political aspirations but also has the potential to influence the future of Venezuelan politics.
