New problems for Microsoft because of a cyber attack by the group of hackersponsored by Russia, Midnight Blizzard. The news was made known by the US company itself – as reported Guardian e Reuters – pointing out that hackers have obtained theaccess to some of his archives digital by source codes e internal systemsafter an attack detected in January.
“In the last few weeks, we have been harvesting prove that the hacker Midnight Blizzard (or Noble) sta using information which had been taken by our men system mail corporate to obtain, or attempt to obtain, unauthorized access, including access to some of the company’s source code warehouses and internal systems. So far we have found no evidence that customer interface systems in the Microsoft environment have been compromised,” the company explained in a post. It is not clear what source code the hackers had access to but the Russian group is trying to use “secrets of different kinds that he found” to look for further violations by the company and potentially by its customers. The attack is therefore still ongoing. “Some of these secrets – adds the company – had been shared by customers and Microsoft in emails and as we discover this in our exfiltrated emails, we are contacting these customers to assist them in taking mitigation measures”.
A month and a half ago, Microsoft had revealed that the hacker group linked to Russia would be infiltrated in the account email of some of the company’s top managers hunting for information. “There is currently no evidence” that hackers “had access to production systemsal source code or to the systems of artificial intelligence“, Microsoft had assured in January, explaining that the hackers had entered the emails of Redmond managers but also those of the employees in the sector of cybersicurezza. To access the members of Midnight Blizzard they would have used the simple technique of password sprayingor the use of common and trivial passwords with which they managed to infiltrate an old system account and were subsequently able to move within the email.
Led since 2008 by the services of intelligence Russian externals, Midnight Blizzard is a group known to the American authorities and was the protagonist of high profile attacks.
