The city of Mimoso do Sul, in Espírito Santo, recorded this Saturday (23), four deaths as a result of heavy rains, according to the State Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense. The governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, spoke during a press conference about the situation in the region and declared an emergency.

Casagrande flew over the region and visited the municipality this morning, which is one of the cities most affected by the rain.

“The situation is chaotic, as is the case of Mimoso do Sul (…) dozens of people are missing”, says the governor to CNN.

The state government and city hall are working to rescue victims and provide care to those affected. Access roads to the city remain closed.

Casagrande states that they have not yet requested help from the ministry, as a more detailed diagnosis of the incidents will still be necessary.

“The Ministry of Social Development and Combating Hunger has already said that it will be able to bring forward the family allowance for affected families”, states Casagrande.

“Tonight, for now, there is no energy or communication in Mimoso do Sul (…) we hope that with the water going down, we will be able to identify and measure this calamity that we are experiencing in some municipalities in the south of the state of Espírito Santo”, says Casagrande .
