New facts have emerged about the Al Hanifiyah Kediri Islamic Boarding School, where the death of a student named Bintang Balqis Maulana (14), from Banyuwangi, occurred. Based on an investigation by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion for East Java Province in Kediri, it turned out that the Islamic boarding school did not have a permit.

Head of the Early Education and Islamic Boarding School Division of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion for East Java, Mohammad As’adul Anam, regrets the incident of violence at the Al Hanifiyyah Tartilul Quran Islamic Boarding School (PPTQ) in Kemayan Hamlet, Kranding Village, Mojo District, Kediri Regency. He expressed his condolences to the victim’s family.

“That the scene of the incident was at Pondok Al-Hanifiyyah, not Pondok Al-Islahiyyah. But studying at MTs Sunan Kalijogo in Pondok Al-Islahiyyah. The existence of the Islamic boarding school does not yet have an Islamic boarding school permit,” said Mohammad As’adul Anam, Tuesday (27 /2/2024).

Because the Al-Hanifiyyah Islamic Boarding School did not have permission, the East Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion could not take administrative action. His party can only respect the legal process in the police.

“In this case, the regional office really respects the applicable legal process. If it is closed, I apologize, because schools, madrasas and Islamic boarding schools are different entities. On average, these Islamic boarding schools are not founded by the government, all of them are founded by kiai. If Islamic boarding schools have their permits revoked, their Koran recitation activities “still, because it is informal,” he explained.

Based on the decision of Bahtsul Masail PWNU East Java, the Regional Office cannot close the Islamic boarding school. The reason is, the purpose of establishing Islamic boarding schools is as a place for people to study and seek knowledge, the law of which is fardu ain.

“The operational permit can be revoked, if there is one. But this doesn’t exist,” he stressed.

Even though he did not have permission, added As’adul Anam, the Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Religion did not stand idly by in dealing with the problem with the PPTQ AL-Hanifiyyah Kediri. His party continues to carry out prevention and monitoring efforts, so that a similar incident does not happen again at the boarding house of Fatihunada alias Gus Fatih.

“This year we created a program called SALIM, namely, greeting Islamic religious educational institutions. We do this every week to prevent violence in the Islamic boarding school environment,” he said.

Based on the results of investigations by the Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Religion, PPTQ Al-Hanifiyyah began carrying out learning activities in 2014. Currently, the number of students is 93 students, consisting of 19 female students and 74 female students.

Previously, a student named Bintang Balqis Maulana, from Banyuwangi, died allegedly after being abused at an Islamic boarding school in Mojo District, Kediri Regency. The victim died on Friday (23/2) afternoon.
